U.S. Stock Futures Rise as Wall Street Rally Continues

Live Global Market Updates

With equities expected to build on the significant gains seen over the previous few sessions, the major U.S. index futures are now pointing to a higher opening on Wednesday. The markets may continue to benefit from recent upward momentum, which has propelled the Dow and S&P 500 to new record highs. Recent buying interest has emerged in response to a significant drop in crude oil prices, which fell by over 10 percent in the last two sessions. While crude oil prices are regaining some ground during today’s trading, traders maintain a sense of optimism regarding the potential for an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Dow may benefit from a sharp increase by shares of Disney, with the entertainment giant surging by more than 3 percent in pre-market trading after reporting better than expected fiscal third quarter earnings. Building on the robust upward momentum observed in recent sessions, equities experienced a significant increase during trading on Tuesday. The major averages all exhibited substantial upward movements, with the Dow and S&P 500 achieving new record closing highs. The major averages retraced from their peaks as the market approached the close, yet they sustained a solid positive stance. The Dow experienced a notable increase of 907.47 points, reflecting a rise of 1.7 percent, closing at 54,085.88.

The NASDAQ demonstrated a significant gain, climbing 671.10 points or 2.6 percent to reach 26,584.99. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 advanced by 136.02 points, marking an increase of 1.8 percent, concluding at 7,736.52. The sustained resilience observed on Wall Street occurred alongside a protracted decline in crude oil prices, as U.S. crude oil futures experienced a drop of 5.7 percent, further decreasing by over 5 percent on Monday. Crude oil prices experienced an upward movement earlier in the day but subsequently reversed direction following remarks from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who suggested that a deal between the U.S. and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be reached within the next few days. “We are in talks with the Iranians,” Bessent told.

“There is a chance we may have a deal today or tomorrow to open the strait and move towards a more normalized position in this conflict.” Tech stocks played a pivotal role in the rally, buoyed by a favourable response to earnings announcements from enterprise software leader Palantir. Palantir’s shares surged by nearly 30 percent following the release of its second quarter results, which exceeded expectations, alongside an upward revision of its full-year guidance.
