Ship crossings through the Strait of Hormuz remained in single digits on Monday, showing a slight increase from the weekend, based on preliminary shipping data released on Tuesday, as US and Iranian peace talks continue to be at an impasse. On Monday, six commodity ships transited the strait, with three departing the Gulf and three making their entrance, according to Kpler shiptracking data. This figure stands in contrast to the 10-day average of 11 ships. On Saturday, three ships transited, while two navigated the waterway on Sunday.
There were no very large crude carriers or tankers transporting liquefied natural gas in transit. Some vessels may be transiting the strait with their transponders deactivated, and as a result, they are excluded from the count. The very large gas carrier Xavia navigated the strait through the Iranian route in a ballast condition, indicating it was devoid of cargo, as per the data available.
VLGCs are generally employed to transport liquefied petroleum gases, including propane and butane. A medium-range fuel tanker and an intermediate-range tanker also entered the Gulf, the data showed, while a medium-sized LPG carrier, a Panamax bulk carrier, and a Panamax-sized fuel tanker exited the Gulf.
